How to wear Black lipstick?

Black Magic
In today's post I will be discussing/sharing ways how to wear black lipstick. This is by no means a stringent guide for you to follow; I'm not an expert - just sharing my trials & errors.

I spent some time looking at various articles and videos to see ways in which black lipstick could/can be worn. Ultimately from my findings, I would assume that generally anything can be done. To clarify the matter I took to colouring in various advertisement pictures of models by giving them black lipstick - to see if the look would match - I think it did. No woman or man was safe from my colouring - muahaha! Excuse the wrinkled pictures - water accidentally spilled on the papers.

Subtle but smokey eyes with black lipstick = works

Then of course it came down to me translating this research onto my face. Thanks of the comely for the request :) !

I did 3 main looks. What I wanted to show was that black lips don't need to be stuck to one genre "vamp" it can be as fun and wearable as any other shade. Lately I've been seeing quite a few black pouts (ok ... 2 - but its better than nothing) so I think a shift in the makeup world might be happening ... Are you ready for the black lip revolution?

The Pictorial Process

Warning: Yes I know my eyebrows are not the best - they're looking pretty sparse and yeah my eyes are puffy (that's what life's disappointment can do). As usual, I have not used photoshop or a filter on any of the pictures in order to show how the product really looks like on the skin. Although, my camera takes pictures with a lot of light so sometimes it does tend to wash me out. Also, I've made the pictures on the smaller size to not make this process narcissistically long and scary. Remember I'm not a makeup  expert nor a fashion guru (lets not speak about the clothing).

Step 1: Cleanse face, then Moisturise and Prime. Using a primer might help increase the longevity of your makeup but most of all it provides a smooth surface for your foundation to be applied.
Step 2: Apply a foundation of your choice. I chose to Maybelline 355. I applied it with my fingers to different parts of my face and the blended it in. I wasn't aiming for complete perfection but I did want to blur my blemishes and even my skin tone.
Step 3: I applied my black lipstick (PZC liquid lipstick in Black Cat) and then an eye primer. Usually I would do my cheeks and eyes before my lips but  since I was unsure what I would be using I just rolled with it.
Step 4: I applied a bronze gold shade to my lids and then a black at the outer corner to create a smoky look. I went a bit too above my natural crease so I did use a wet wipe eventually to get rid of the extra.
Step 5: To finish the eye look I used Lancome Hynose Mascara (not pictured) and then some NYX Cream Blush in Red. I dabbed a little on my finger, dabbed some excess off on the back of my hand (to take off some colour because its really pigmented) and then applied it to my upper cheeks to create a reddish glow/sheen. I have not set my makeup because I knew I  would be washing my face for a different look (see below) and that I wasn't going out anywhere later on.
Third Look: I washed my face - reapplied primer then foundation. Changed my blush to NYX Cream blush in Orange. For my eyes I used my fingers to apply some  Nars Cream Eye Paint in Solomon Islands on my eye lids and then applied Lancome Hypnose mascara again (not pictured). Lastly I applied my black lipstick.

The Looks

The Smokes: This look is comprised of two eye shadows - a bronze and a black. This look can be made to be rather dramatic or somewhat subtle. I chose the more subtle route but I think this shows that a smoky eye can work with black lips without being overly harsh. You can use any two shades but its best to apply the darker shade as your contour (outer part of your eye) to add depth and drama to your eyes.

Naturalista: The easiest look - much loved by yours truly. Best to use a simple shimmering skin shade colour (mine is dark brown/bronze shimmer by Becca) to add a little something to the eyes without doing too much. I applied the shade with my fingers. To finish the apply some mascara to your lashes (if you want) and then you're good to go.

Pop Block: Black lips and colourful eyes may not be to everybody's liking but I wanted to show that wearing black lips or "vampy" lips doesn't mean you have forgo having a bold colour anywhere else on your face.

Baby Bling: This look is pop block but with extras. Instead of dotting freckles on my face I used diamante's from Primark (80p a sheet). Fancy dress idea?

O.K. that's it, you've had enough of me - these are just some possible ways to wear black lipstick - till next time but, lastly some reassurance: I doubt I'll ever take so many pictures again for one post of the face (my face - lol). I am going to do another makeup request & possibly a skincare talk but I'll keep the me picture count low as its really time consuming and must be a pain to scroll through. Besides how many side profiles do you really need to see?
